Platform Tennis is on Fire in Glen Ellyn!

As the premier location for platform tennis in the western suburbs, the Glen Ellyn Park District is in the midst of its most successful year. Membership is up over 17% from last year, with 234 players enjoying the sport. The park district partners with the Glen Ellyn Platform Tennis Club, a non-for-profit club dedicated to promoting and supporting the sport of platform tennis in and around Glen Ellyn, to grow the membership and host a variety of events.

The Club is also the sponsoring group of men’s and women’s travel league teams. These teams play competitively across the Chicagoland area against 40 other platform tennis facilities. Accomplishments this year included:

·        Eleven men’s travel teams with over 110 members;

·        Nine of the eleven teams in the playoffs, five semi-finalists and one championship;

·        Formed the first Glen Ellyn women’s travel team;

·        A full-time pro joined the park district, new furniture was added to the tennis hut, and continued partnership with the Glen Ellyn Park District for exploring further capital improvements; and,

·        The club has grown to the sixth largest club in all of the Chicago area in terms of travel team members, and the second largest with four courts.

Congratulations to the Men’s intermediate Series 4.0(b) team on their Chicagoland championship. The team, led by Captain Mark Malec, beat Tennaqua Swim and Racquet Club on March 4 and celebrated their victory at the award ceremony at the Glen View Club.

Play continues on a year-round basis at Maryknoll Park. Join the fun!
